Proposal Name: PreMaGo - Web-based Prediction Markets for Participatory Governance
Subject: PreMaGo will develop and evaluate an new prediction market model for supporting funding decisions by aggregating information from a possibly large community of stakeholders. The concept will be realised as an open, web-based collaboration platform with facilities for suggesting and discussing prospective funding projects and for voting about which of these funding projects will benefit their stakeholders most. Proposal Name: SIMIT: Supporting media interaction through immersive technologies
Subject: With multitouch technology, manipulating 2D and 3D images, maps and videos is faster and more fluidly than a conventional graphical interface. Moreover it supports native grabbing of objects, providing a rich end user experience. However, while multitouch technologies are over 20 years old, they have been barely investigated in terms of software, hardware and usability. After introduction of Microsoft Surface and Apple iPhone extensively using multitouch technologies, there has been an awareness and demand with this technology as it provides means of using gestures with a nautral user interface. On the contrary to the advancements in US, Europe is lagging behind in this domain, and there's a need to start a joint research activity regarding building a common API, UI standards and a set of methods for information representation, searching, filtering and networking.

Subject: This project will conduct research on an interdependent wireless network without involvement of base stations. Each radio in this network contributes to information transfer while it talks to others. The scalability and throughput of the network will be much higher than any traditional ad-hoc radio networks, although there are also significant technical challenges in providing high-quality services.

Subject: The main objective of the proposal is the design and fabrication of nano-structured mono and multi-layers made of protein molecules that are subsequently chemically modified and metalized by electroless methods to serve as biotemplates for the future ICT generation (beyond CMOS). Implementation of this technology will lead to greater miniaturization and unification, due to smaller metall cluster size (betwee 1-10 nm) smaller distances between metal clusters ( between 3 and 200 nm) and enhanced long range order (more than square inch).

Subject: Phoebe pursues boosting Europe at the forefront of photonic buffering components by proposing and demonstrating a photonic crystal (PhC) based approach to slow-light which overcomes the current challenges hindering their industrial roadmap. The main motivation for the development of optical buffering components is to enable optical packet switched (OPS) networks with quality of service (QoS) capabilities, and thus the requirements to meet this goal will be the guideline to follow within the project. Allowing for the development of optical buffers as integrated industrial components entails dealing with physical issues, mainly related to loss and dispersion, which must be overcome.

Proposal Name: Mobile PathFinder for the Visually Impaired (MOBI-PATHFINDER)
Subject: Currently, the state of the art for applications providing navigation through mobile phones (or other handheld devices) for the visually impaired depends heavily on GPS. This practice provides street by street directions towards a bus stop, a restaurant or a friend’s house. Nevertheless, GPS is a coarse-grain solution supporting spatial resolution (~ 3m deviation from the exact position) and it is available only in open-sky places. Subsequently, the navigational capabilities for the visually impaired using GSP-based applications are limited. MOBI-PATHFINDER will be providing detailed navigational instructions inside buildings and open-space areas that include stairs, elevators, exact street positioning and navigation as well as obstacle detection capabilities for avoiding moving and stationary objects.

Subject: EHsense project main strategic objective is to develop a multiparametric system based on an Infra Red laser pointer, a little camera, and sensors, enable simultaneously scanning eye movements and patient diameter as well as heart rate as physiological markers in depression and PTSD. This system will enable also measurement of non-cooperative subjects such as children utilizing advanced data networks to communicate with health professionals. These measures will also be used as early predictors of the outcome of the selected treatment.
