Summary:
Latvian engineers and medical experts has developed a non-expensive, automated lung ventilator used during COVID-19 pandemic. It is designed to be assembled from easily available components. Team is close to finalizing product development and looking for manufacturing partners interested in production of device. Certification of ventilator as a medical device is needed as well. They are open for commercial agreement with technical assistance, licencing and technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
Team of Latvian engineers and medical experts has developed a non-expensive automated lung ventilator that can be used during COVID-19 pandemic. Purpose of design is to provide simplified but functional model that would help medics to save lives of patients with short-term respiratory failure. Device design is based on use of manual resuscitator bag. Compression of it is done by electromechanical actuator with microcomputer control. Ventilator incorporates necessary sensors for adaptive and safe operation according requirements of EU and Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency - MHRA (UK) to medical devices. Supported ventilation modes: pressure regulated volume control - PRVC; volume control - VC; volume control-assist control - VC-AC; pressure control - PC, pressure control-assist control - PC-AC. Technical parameters: Tidal Volume 250-650ml; Inspiration to Expiration ratio (I:E ratio) 1:1 up to 1:3 Respiration Rate: 10 – 30 breaths per minute (BPM) Additional Oxygen to air: FiO2 21-100%; Integrated Oxygen level measurement Flow and Pressure Sensors Alarms for main parameters Intuitive parameter control trough touchscreen and physical control knobs ensuring easy operation with gloves. Team is looking for manufacturing partners who would be interested to finalize the product development and manufacturing of the device.
