Summary:
A Spanish university is preparing a project proposal to Interreg SUDOE programme, priority 1. The project aims to develop a computerized tool to support decision-making in the wine sector, offering recommendations to the management, based on the evolution of the different environmental and market variables. The university is looking for French organizations (R&D centres, clusters, companies, associations...) located in the SUDOE territory (Auvergne, Occitanie y Nouvelle Aquitaine).
Description:
A Spanish university is preparing a project proposal to the next Interreg SUDOE programe call. The project will be called BASOS (Business intelligence Applied to the Sustainability of wine Sector) and the university is looking for partners from France in the SUDOE regions (Auvergne, Occitanie y Nouvelle Aquitaine). The relevance of Europe in general, and Spain, France and Portugal, in particular, in the wine sector worldwide is beyond dispute. According to data from the International Organization of Vine and Wine in 2017, 52.9% of the world vineyard area is located in European countries and almost 50% of that area of European vineyard is located only in these three countries. These percentages increase if we focus on the volume of wine production. However, while the US sold its production in 2016 at 6.03 € per litre, France sold it at 4.98 €, Portugal at 3.19 € and Spain at 2.16 €. These data evidence the reduced capacity to generate added value by European companies and their competitiveness problems in the international context, endangering the sustainability of the sector in the medium and long term, both in of economic and environmental terms. One of the main objectives of the BASOS project is to develop a computerized tool to support decision-making, which will offer recommendations to the management based on the evolution of the different environmental and market variables. This tool will allow, based on historical data previously collected in the wineries through the field notebooks, to determine the key variables (KPs) to control and measure to improve economic and environmental management, such as irrigation or use of phytosanitary products, among others, so as to reduce the cost of exploitation, on the one hand, and adapt the product obtained to the tastes of the consumer, on the other. In addition, this tool will allow adapting to future more restrictive environmental legislations or changes in the market, giving companies in the wine sector more flexibility and anticipation. BASOS allows the planning of future campaigns adapting the recommendations to maximize the performance of the field in the most likely climatic scenario. The solution of the BASOS project must be able to: - discover the success factors during the cultivation process, - estimate the behaviour of future harvests before changes (either meteorological or by modification in the use of fertilizers, irrigation, or phytosanitary), and - predict the acceptance of the markets for the different wines that can be produced. Therefore, the integrated solution BASOS is a computer solution that will facilitate the acquisition, storage, sharing and processing of data and that shed light on the future behaviour of crops under a large number of different scenarios, to address the main challenges of the near future of the wine sector: restriction in the use of fertilizers and phytosanitary ware, reduction of risk, changes in tendencies of consumption and, therefore, variations in the price of sale. The profile of the searched project partners is: - university, research center; - technological center, scientific and technological park; - clusters or other association of companies, companies (according to the eligibility criteria provided by entity type IV within the framework of the Interreg Sudoe program). to develop some of the project activities. Timescales: - Official deadline for the call: 25th of October 2019 (Phase 1) and March – May 2020 (Phase 2) - Deadline for expressions of interest: 31st of August 2019 - Project duration: 01.10.2020 – 31.01.2023 (28 months)
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
Type of partner sought: - Technological centre, scientific and technological park. - Clusters or other association of companies. - Companies (according to the eligibility criteria provided by entity type IV within the framework of the Interreg Sudoe program).
