Summary:
A Finnish economic development corporation is searching for a multidisciplinary consortium or a coordinator of consortium to apply for the call H2020 LC-GD-5-1-2020 Green Airports & Ports, to research, test and pilot green airway heating solutions. The potential consortium might include partners with the appropriate complementary knowledge and skills and they might be industry, consultancy, airport/port authorities, universities, academia etc. under research cooperation agreement.
Description:
This partner´s interest for this call focuses on green solutions for airports in the northern hemisphere, where winter storm conditions typically negatively influence airport capacity through delays and/or cancellations, due in part to runway closures caused by pavement surface conditions. Conventional ice and snow removal practices are labour intensive and have environmental concerns such as possible contamination of nearby water bodies for highway and airport pavements. Chemicals used today include so-called formates, compounds of either sodium and formic acid (solid granular material), or potassium and formic acid (liquid de-icer). They are applied to the moist or wet surface before freezing sets in. This EDC would like to test, demonstrate and pilot the following activities: - Low-emission energy use for keeping the airports operational during the winter conditions (heated pavement system e.g. by using geothermal waters) and collecting heat from the runway during the summer months (needs 2 more actions from the transport side). - Demonstrating integration of new solutions with operations, green and smart logistics and infrastructures and enhancing green land planning and use (e.g. unmanned freight drone aircrafts). - Measuring and modelling (future prediction, explanation of response) changes in the region's greenhouse gas and energy balances caused by heating field plots & detect the area in terms of GHG concentrations and ground condition from air with drones / satellite. - Energy efficient facilities for green energy production to power the built environment and infrastructure incl. runways, terminal, warehouses, hangars. The Finnish EDC is looking for a multidisciplinary consortium or a coordinator with a consortium that is planning to submit a proposal for the European Green Deal Call under H2020 LC-GD-5-1-2020 Green Airports & Ports. Potential partners are for example - industry - consultancy, - airport/port authorities, - universities, - academia etc. partners who are applying for the call H2020 LC-GD-5-1-2020 Green Airports & Ports and have complementary idea or project concept. The complementary idea or project concept might be related for example decreasing pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emission in aviation etc. The potential cooperation form is research cooperation agreement. This Finnish economic development corporation (EDC) is a public utility of the city in western part of Finland and implementing the city's industry and employment policies by promoting activities for enterprise, employment and business in the region. Their role is to help companies and clients to succeed in their business and develop. They work closely with the companies in the region to support their growth. In the region there is a regional airport that is operated by a private company. Now in cooperation with the companies in the region, this EDC aims at making the airport a Living Lab test environment for future innovation and technology. Deadline for the call: 26 January 2021. Deadline for the express of interests for this call: 31 December 2020.
