Description: 
A German SME active in the production of parts for the automotive industry and repair of tools as injection moulds by laser welding has developed a coated laser wire in cooperation with a local research institute. The coating of the welding wire with additional metals reduce the risk of welding failures as the welding seam as homogeneity and penetration depth are increased. Additionally the energy effort is reduced up to 50% and the use of thicker welding wires up 8mm is enabled. Currently the SME has a machine for the small-scale production of the coated wire in use. The coated welding wire is already produced for customers as German automotive OEM. Due to the high customer satisfaction and the increasing demand for the product and the demand of customers for 50 kg welding wire rolls for serial production in the automotive sector, the company is actually field testing a coating machine which meets this demand. A patent for the process is pending. The German SME plans to produce the welding wire for the European market. To increase commercial exploitation the SME is looking for licensees who are interested to sell or produce the product for additional foreign markets.
