Summary:
A young Danish company has won numerous prizes for its innovative new cold pasteurisation system, using non-thermal ultraviolet light treatment, which increases milk quality, while reducing production time and costs. The company wishes to expand into new markets via commercial agency agreements.
Description:
The Danish company was founded in 2017 in North Denmark, based on years of research and development with industry, academia, public health and specialists, within the field of sustainable pasteurisation for use in the dairy industry. Normally, pasteurisation and bactofugation are major components of all modern dairy production, used to ensure food safety. However, the processes are expensive to run and maintain, and the characteristics of the milk changes as it has been heated and subjected to mechanical stress. The company has developed a method of cold pasteurisation, using a modular non-thermal pasteurisation system, which replaces conventional thermal pasteurisation via the application of ultraviolet (UV) light to process liquids. The treatment ensures that proteins and vitamins are preserved in the milk, while removing bacteria and spores. This reduces the production costs significantly, saves production time and allows dairies to produce without pasteurisers or bactofuges and with a total electricity consumption of 3,5 kwh per ton of raw milk - in many cases up to 90% energy savings. Feedbacks from operational units indicate a return on investment (ROI) of 2 years. Recent tests with cheese production when using cold pasteurisation methods showed a decrease in the protein content of the first whey, supporting higher transition figures and leading to a 10% higher yield. Their product range can also be used for other liquids needing treatment including wine, beers, soda, juices and non-food liquids. The company has won a large number of prizes for their technology, including EY Entrepreneur of the Year, Postcode Lottery Green Challenge - one of the largest global competitions within sustainable entreneurship, Green Tech Challenge, Venture Cup Denmark, EIT-Climate Launchpad and Denmark's equivalent of Dragon's Den. In order to continue their expansion, the company is looking for commercial agents with documented experience working with dairy technologies, supplying equipment to the milk processing industry, or working directly with companies making beverages.
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
The company is looking for commercial agencies providing processing equipment within the beverage and dairy sectors. This could be an agent with existing provisions of turnkey solutions within beverages and dairy, looking for a plug-and-play cold pasteurisation solution to enhance their existing product portfolio, or a specialist in pasteurisation and bactofuge technologies, looking for state-of-the-art alternative process. The company is open to different solutions for different markets and sectors, depending on the scope and coverage of the agent.
