Summary:
An Italian SME with expertise in high precision mechanical processing for aerospace components is looking for consortium partners and a project coordinator within an R&D project under H2020-JTI-CS2-2020-CFP11-AIR-01-47 call for proposals. The aim is to develop a pilot line Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) to produce structural components up to 6 metres long. Cooperation is envisaged under research cooperation agreement.
Description:
An Italian SME with over 50 years of experience in the field of very high precision mechanical processing for major structural components for aerospace is willing to develop a printing approach using Wire Direct Energy Deposition for a flap track structure, supported by simulations to compensate potential deformation after printing. More in details, the objective of the project idea is to develop a sliding pad with Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology, while certifying structural aluminium alloys for production in additive manufacturing, so as to create a pilot line for the production of near-net shape structural components in the aerospace sector. In order to develop its project, the company is looking for consortium partners and a project coordinator to participate in Clean Sky 2 Joint Technology Initiative (JTI) call for proposal, under subtopic H2020-JTI-CS2-2020-CFP11-AIR-01-47: Additive Manufacturing demonstration on test article for a trailing edge application with a sliding pad concept. In details, up to 3 SMEs are sought to complete the company's know-how and capabilities concerning post processing possibilities on 5-axle high precision work centres, particle size control over coordinate-measuring machine (CMM) 8x4 m and the National Aerospace and Defence Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) certified heat treatment furnace. At the same time, consortium partners are expected to cooperate with the company's R&D team in the development of the Additive Manufacturing pilot line, ending up in the provision of an end user use case, as well as machining and post processing. Partner search is open also to companies coming from sectors other than aerospace (such as oil and gas, rail, shipbuilding). Key experience sought is in the certification of materials for the additive manufacturing: one academic partner is therefore needed to develop the material analysis and characterisation and the process parameters in order to obtain parts that are conform to applicable aeronautical specifications. The consortium would be completed by including one OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) which is expected to provide the Wire Arch Additive Manufacturing technology to perform the activities of the project, with the design, construction and validation of a 3D printing machine if necessary. As the final aim of this partner search is to submit an Horizon 2020 call for proposal, cooperation is envisaged under research cooperation agreement and potential partners are requested from selected countries listed below (both EU Member states and Horizon 2020 associated countries). Deadline for proposal submission: 12/05/2020 Deadline for expressions of interest: 05/05/2020
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
The Italian company is looking for the following types of partners: - Up to 3 SMEs able to cooperate to the development of the pilot line and to provide an end user case study. Partner search is open also to companies active in sectors other than aerospace (such as oil and gas, rail, shipbuilding). - One academic partner able to develop the material analysis and characterisation as well as proper process parameters for WAAM technology. - One OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) able to provide WAAM equipment. - A coordinator with experience in H2020 project coordination. It could be embedded by one of the SMEs or academic partner aforementioned. This partner search is restricted to selected countries listed below, including both EU Member states and Horizon 2020 associated countries.
