The company manufactures inexpensive, disposable in vitro diagnostic devices (IVDs) for diagnosing infection. These IVDs are designed to be compatible with and complementary to existing (lab-based) infection control processes and techniques. The technology instantly signals the presence of high levels of cells associated with infection. These rapid point-of-care diagnostics are simple and convenient to use.
First product to market (launch in Q4 2021) is an IVD for patients on peritoneal dialysis. The device instantly measures white blood cell levels in dialysis effluent and signals if cell levels have crossed the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) threshold defining clinical peritonitis. 2 formats of the device are available - a small bench top unit for use in PD clinics by healthcare professionals and a similar device for use by patients in a home setting.
By providing early warning systems for emerging infections, the technology will improve the management of frontline antibiotic drugs – leading the battle against the growing tide of antimicrobial resistance.
To expand internationally, the UK company is offering a distribution service agreement or joint venture agreement to partners with knowledge in the renal dialysis products in selected markets. The UK company are also keen to talk to companies with venture capital divisions and/or interest in the IVD / medical device sector, to help fund / support sales growth plans.
