Summary:
Inventor from Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina is looking for partners/investors who will provide necessary financial and organizational support entering financial, license or manufacturing agreement, in order to start a mass production of surge protector device for the international market.
Description:
An inventor from Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina is looking for investors to start a mass production of surge protector device for the international market. Electrical appliances and whole electrical systems, in general, aren’t immune to disturbances that come from a lightning bolt. All appliances are designed to operate on 120 volts AC (Alternative Current). This value can vary a little bit, but whenever there is a lightning strike at an object, electromagnetic waves are created and those waves affect transmission lines and cause disturbance of the whole power supply system. This disturbance is called a surge and it lasts a few millionths of one second. This seemingly small and insignificant spike can destroy all appliances in a house. There are many different surge protection companies and products in the market. Most of them use Metal Oxide Varistors (MOV) or Gas Discharge Tubes (GDT). Surge protectors on the market fail to provide adequate protection, and their protection wears very fast, after 2 to 3 years usually. And whenever they do wear out it is hard for consumers to know that. This patent offers a solution for inadequate surge protection. It is based on an award-winning invention patented by the inventor from Bosnia and Herzegovina. This method of protection from surges uses basic Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction to make a surge protector which cannot be penetrated by electrical currents which come from lightning strikes. This solution solves the problem of devices wearing too fast. Electromagnetic coil solves another problem. It completely stops the current from reaching consumer appliances and makes this way of surge protection a 100% effective. Even if GTD/MOV wears out, the coil will still be functioning and by stopping the current it will prevent it from destroying appliances. The surge protector can be installed into extension cords, computers, internet modems, phone lines, and breaker boxes to protect electricity of the whole houses. In order to establish a mass production of the device, the inventor is seeking for outside partners/investors who will provide necessary financial and organizational support entering financial, license or manufacturing agreement.
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
Inventor is looking for an investor who would be interested in entering a financial agreement with him. It is required for the investor to bring in necessary funds to start a factory where the manufacturing process will happen. Also, the inventor will invest some financial funds and his intellectual property rights. According to the agreement, the profit is to be divided between inventor and investor. As for the licensing agreement, the inventor is open to sell or lease patent rights to an investor who is interested in buying/leasing it. In the case of selling patent client would legally transfer patent rights to the investor, and in exchange client would require a fee to be paid. The fee is negotiable and depends on projected market potential of the patent. If an investor wants to lease the patent rights, the inventor would require it to be for at least 10 years. In exchange, the client would require yearly fee on all profit made from the patent. The inventor is also interested in partnering up with a manufacturing company which would be interested in manufacturing this product. That company would be in charge of the whole manufacturing process, while client company would be in charge of marketing, packaging, shipping, and customer support. Manufacturing partner would receive a monthly sales fee as a percentage of all profit made. The inventor is looking to sign a manufacturing agreement which would last for at least 3 years.
Stage of Development:
Field tested/evaluated
Comments Regarding Stage of Development:
Product was tested at College of Electrical Engineering at University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 2003. The product showed high performance and was granted a production certificate. Inventor installed the protection in several houses which traditionally had problems with surges, and problems never came back.
