An Italian machinery company with a global presence is looking for start-ups or scale-ups offering innovative IoT solutions for industrial machinery, preferably at TRL 7, to monitor and digitize machinery operativity with the aim to optimize its energy consumption. Partners will work together in the co-development of pilot projects and proof of concepts under technical cooperation agreement. This request is part of an open innovation challenges programme.
Description:
A family-run Italian group with a worldwide presence is a designer, manufacturer and distributor of a complete range of gear motors, drive systems, planetary gearboxes and inverters, as solutions for all types of applications in industrial automation, mobile machinery and wind energy. The main sectors where the company provides expertise are: materials handling, packaging, rubber and plastics, mining, metal processing, biogas as well as food, beverages and tobacco.
The Italian company, founded in 1956, is interested in the opportunities offered by IoT technologies to monitor in real-time and digitize machinery operativity, with the final aim to optimize its energy consumption. However, they are facing important difficulties in finding solutions that can be applied transversally to their wide range of products and machines (they propose more than 20 million product combinations), while IoT sensors are usually designed for very specific conditions of operations.
The Italian group is interested in collaborating with start-ups or scale-ups, from all over the world, to co-develop proof of concepts or pilot projects, under technical cooperation agreement also to adapt the solution to the company’s needs.
--- IMPORTANT: This technical cooperation request refers to an open innovation challenges program published on a separate online platform (b2match). If an organization expresses interest before the program closing date, it will be guided towards the open innovation platform.
During registration, interested organizations will be asked to select the challenge that corresponds with this technology request profile. If admitted to the programme, start-ups and scale-ups will benefit from training and will be able to create their (presentation) profile to connect with the companies in order to organize 1to1 matchmaking meetings.
The company will select the organisations that they would like to meet for the development of the solution.
The challenge closes on November the 30th 2021. Once the challenge is closed, expressions of Interest for this technology request will be treated in the traditional way.

Potential partners are start-ups or scale-ups from any country, with knowledge and/or expertise in IoT solutions (sensors) for real-time monitoring and digitization of operating parameters of industrial machinery and components.
Start-ups and scale-ups are required to propose innovative ideas and/or solutions in the field.
Suitable companies are invited to propose their expertise. After being selected, the goal is to co-develop concrete proof of concepts or pilot projects, under technical cooperation agreement to adapt the solution to the company’s needs.
Technical Specification or Expertise Sought:
The Italian company is looking for innovative solutions in IoT technologies that should support the digitization of machinery, enable real-time monitoring and digitization of machinery operativity, in order to optimize energy consumption thus making the company’s industrial processes more sustainable.
The solution sought should have a minimum TRL of 6 - System/subsystem model or prototype demonstration in a relevant environment (ground or space) - but they are also interested in evaluating lower TRLs solutions.
