Summary:
A Serbian institute is offering a testing kit for semi-quantitative detection of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides in water. The test is a colourimetric assay, based on Organophosphate/Carbamate inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. The institute is interested in acting as a subcontractor for technical services. The institute offers to produce the kit for users on request under a manufacturing agreement.
Description:
A Serbian institute for natural sciences, which is part of the university, is specialized in the development and applications of separation and electrochemical methods for biomedicine and protection of the environment. The laboratory has expertise in liquid-phase microextraction, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, and developed a program for the determination of conditions for experimental membrane extraction of pesticides. Serbian institute is offering a testing kit for semi-quantitative detection of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides in water developed by the laboratory. The detection limit is below the concentration allowed for target compounds. The kit can be used for sample analysis in the lab as well as field analysis. The kit is suitable for analysis of 10 samples (each sample in duplicate), contains all components required to perform analysis, the result of the analysis (intensity of developed yellow colour) can be detected either by eye or measured by portable colourimeter (at the field) or by a controlled microplate reader at 405 or 450 nm (in the lab). The advantage of the application of this test is the possibility to be used in the field, by the low educated staff. Besides, the test is inexpensive and faster than laboratory analysis, and additionally, the prior time-consuming sample preparation is avoided. Currently, the kit is a result of R&D projects financed by the Serbian government and is marketed in Serbia, and exported in the region (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro). The institute’s preference is participation in product development concerning water quality control as a subcontractor for technical services concerning the questions of interest for the partners related to similar products, e.g., collaboration for the development of new products. The institute also would like to expand its market to other countries and offers to produce the kit for users on request under manufacturing agreement.
Type (e.g. company, R&D institution…), field of industry and Role of Partner Sought:
Cooperation sought: - Adaptation to specific needs of techniques based on demands of partner and provision of technical subcontracting services - Manufacturing agreement The task to be performed: 1) provide technical consultation/assessment 2) help the dissemination and exploitation of project results 3) assist in field testing
Stage of Development:
Already on the market
Comments Regarding Stage of Development:
Similar kits are in use in accredited laboratories or in the field for the detection of target pesticides in water and food quality control. The potential application domain of kit is its adoption for specific needs on request (fruits, medical plants, irrigation waters, wastewaters, pest production). Currently, the kit is marketed in Serbia, and the laboratory negotiates export in the region (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro).
