Summary:
A German university has developed an improved environmental measurement technology for isokinetic aerosol sampling. The improved system shows a better data validity and is suitable for a wider range of flow velocities. The invention is offered under license agreement and if requested technical cooperation agreement.
Description:
Interest in the composition of our atmosphere has increased steadily in recent years. Especially with regard to the presence of environmentally harmful products such as aerosols that are emitted by power plants, industrial complexes or even vehicles measurement and sampling technology becomes more important. Isokinetic aerosol sampling has to date been only designed and used in very narrow speed ranges. However, known diffusers are only permanently adjustable and designed for a specific flow velocity. A German university developed an isokinetic aerosol sampling-system that enables the error-free sampling of aerosols in the environment with mobile measuring platforms (e.g. vehicles, aircraft, etc.) as well as process monitoring in the field of process engineering (e.g. air conditioning, etc.) The system can be used in liquid and gaseous media. The idea behind the new technology is to use a diffuser upstream of the isokinetic particle sampling to reduce the flow velocity of the inflowing medium as the flow cross-sectional area inside the diffuser increases. The isokinetic particle sampling is arranged in the diffuser and can be variably positioned in the longitudinal direction of the flow within the diffuser. The displacement of the sampling and the diffuser are relative to one another, taking place as a function of the flow velocity. This results in the advantages of covering a very wide, also strongly varying speed range, and of achieving higher data validity at variable flow speeds. The German university offers a license agreement. Potential partners are companies active in emission measurement, air ventilation or similar. If the company requires support in further development, the university will be happy to assist and offers a technical cooperation agreement to go along with it.
