Summary:
Czech R&D institution has developed a technology, which minimizes the need for interior plant maintenance while creating suitable conditions for plant growth that positively impact indoor environment. The technology is offered for licensing.
Description:
Humans acquire houseplants both for their aesthetic function and for the beneficial effect on the indoor environment in rooms where they reduce CO2 concentration and increase air humidity. However, the benefits are redeemed by the need for regular watering and other maintenance. Taking care of them, however, requires a lot of time and other costs. Disclosed system ensures automatic adjustment of plant living conditions in a close cultivation space. Using an advanced sensory system, it measures the state of the environment inside the plant area and controls the regulatory elements that adjust the conditions in cultivation space according to the measured values. The technology is designed for selected mix of C3 and C4 plants and uses a controlled hydroponic system for the continuous supply of nutrients. C3 plants uses C3-cycle or Calvin cycle for dark reaction of photosynthesis. C4 plants uses C4-cycle or Hatch-Slack Pathway for the dark reaction of photosynthesis. Examples of C3 plants: Wheat, Rye, Oats, Rice, Cotton, Sunflower, Chlorella. Examples of C4 plants: Maize, Sugarcane, Sorghum, Amaranthus. Cultivation space is also equipped with controlled ventilation and lighting. Ventilation is controlled to maximize impact of plants to indoor environment while lighting and nutrients supply to provide the cultivation space with the best conditions for plants. The technology offered from the Czech researchers is offered in two variants. The first one is designed for indoor environment as a solitary decorative element for interiors, for example in large-scale offices, restaurants, etc. The second variant can be installed in the outdoor building constructions (into the building´s envelope). The disclosed technology can be used also in environments sensitive to pollution or allergens, such as hospitals or schools. The automatic control system measures the conditions in the cultivation chamber and the room around: - Temperature and relative humidity in the room - Temperature and relative humidity inside the plant chamber - Concentration of CO2 - inside plant chambre and the room - Surface temperature of external glazing - PH and temperature of nutrients solution - Level of nutrients solution - Illumination - Substrate moisture (if the substrate is used) Controlled devices: - Ventilation fans of the inner plant chamber - Nutrients solution supply system - LED light source (intensity and light spectrum) The disclosed technology is offered by the R&D Institution for licensing to companies interested in exercising intellectual property rights and secret know-how for manufacturing, selling, renting or developing products produced.
