Summary:
A Ukrainian University offers a test method for determining the amount of iodine in iodized domestic water based on the sorbent polyurethane foam, in order to control the intake of iodine in the human body. The proposed method is simple, reliable, and highly sensitive, which ensures its use both in analytical laboratories and outside them, as well as provides effective screening of water for iodine content. Type of cooperation: commercial agreement with technical assistance.
Description:
The Ukrainian University since 2001 works on a test system for rapid visual determination of iodine in long-term storage drinking water. It also develops methods of environmental, food, pharmaceutical, and biomedical analysis. Analysis of drinking, natural, domestic water, and other aqueous solutions for the content of various forms of iodine. Iodometric solid-phase spectrophotometry using a foamy sorbent is characterized by a detection limit of 1 • 10-7 grams-equivalent / dm3, which is an order of magnitude lower than that of iodometric spectrophotometry in solutions characterized by a detection limit of 1 • 10-6 grams-equivalent. The created products are simple, ecological. Sorbent polyurethane foam is an affordable material produced by the industry under the trademark "foam rubber". The developed iodometric solid-phase spectrophotometry provides fast, simple, ecological, and highly sensitive (0.03 mg / l) determination of various forms of iodine with the range of detected concentrations up to 12 mg / l I2 in quantitative instrumental determination and up to 50 mg / l I2 in the visual test as in laboratory and non-laboratory (in the field). Laboratory models of color scale testing and instrumental method developed to determine different forms of iodine and total iodine in aqueous solutions. The University is looking for state and local organizations for sanitary-epidemiological and environmental control of drinking water, which are interested in using the proposed test system for quality control of drinking water. Also interesting are companies that have experience in the analysis of drinking water. The type of cooperation can include the commercial agreement with technical assistance.
