Summary:
A Spanish multidisciplinary university has developed a new device for in vivo uterine fluid collection, without endometrial damage. Since the collected samples are not diluted by uterine flushes or contaminated with blood, they are suitable for diagnosis, research or even to supplement embryonic culture media. The design is easily adapted to different mammals including humans. The research group author is looking for a collaboration that leads to a commercial or technical cooperation agreements
Description:
A spanish university has developed this new device for in vivo uterine fluid collection overcome several disadvantages of current methods for this type of collection, like aspiration or uterine flushes. This device does not cause endometrial damage and bleeding, and the collected samples by this device are not diluted, like the ones obtained with uterine flushes. The assisted reproduction market is demanding these samples because of its already proved potential as media supplement that allow higher number of cells per blastocyst, better embryo development kinetics, better DNA methylation and gene expression patterns, when compared with commercial culture media. The device developed consists of a flexible probe where the uterine fluid penetrates by capillary action. The probe is attached to a guide to facilitate handling. A protection sheath is used to avoid contamination with secretions from the cervix and vagina. The researchers at this university that have designed and developed this device have already successfully tested a respective functional prototype, both in animal models (bovine, equine, etc.) and in humans. This invention is protected by Spanish national patent application that is currently in the process of international extension through the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) procedure. The potential business partners are the companies at the animal reproduction sector, as well as companies related to assisted reproductive technology in humans, medical devices design, female health, interested in acquiring or licensing the patent protecting this new technology. The research group author of the invention is looking for a collaboration that leads to a commercial exploitation of the invention. The research group offers scientific technical advice for the commercialization and optimization of the device. The ideal scenario for the University would be to reach an agreement to transfer the use of the technology through sale or license (exclusive or non-exclusive) of the patented device. However, the form, terms and conditions of the collaboration can be openly discussed if the technology presented is of interest.
