Faced with the challenge of having to double global food production in order to feed the growing world population over the next 35 years, the need to maximise crop yields and minimise losses due to existing and emerging pests is paramount. Considerable research into the nature of pests affecting world food crops has been carried out generating large amounts of information and data. This has enabled the creation of decision support systems, forecasting pest emergence and/or migration and economic thresholds, that give guidance on when and where to take action.
